Spinning out of control

Today's workout was a bit of a speedy one. The spinning class seemed to take forever but my legs were just spinning out of control--go faster, faster! I was sweating buckets! My running shirt kept riding up so from now on I will only wear the cycling jerseys--those stay put and don't show my chubs to the people behind me.

Stats:

Swimming: 45 minutes with flip turns on every lap.

Spinning: 45 minutes. Speedwork day. Drank an entire bottle of water

Lifting: Lifted for 30 minutes. 12 lbs and 8 lbs dumbells.

Weighed in: 131 lbs

Saturday Run-7.3 miles

It was a nasty, cold and snowy day today so I had to use the treadmill to run 7 miles. Dreadful! Since I knew that I would be in for at least an hour, I decided to make it less painful by putting a movie in. Choice of the day: Fellowship of the Ring from the LOTR trilogy. What a great show! I never tire of watching it. It got me through the whole 7 miles and I was so into the show that I even went over to 7.3 miles!

Stats: 7.3 miles

Time: 76 minutes

Drank quite a bit of water--advantages of being at home and having an endless supply near.

My legs feel okay (it is about 8 hours later right now) however, I can feel that my body is tired.

Went swimming also for a little bit this afternoon for fun with the kiddos.

Swim, Spin, Swim Day

Time: Got to the gym at 5am. Saved my spin bike and went down to the pool.

Pool Time: Today, I practiced flip turns. Since the beginning of March, I have been trying to learn how to do the flip turns and I have found it quite difficult. It is difficult to throw your bum over. After swimming 24 laps, I decided to try out the flip turns so I moved over to the side of the pool where they were doing water aerobics and I kept trying it over and over. I breathed wrong a couple of times and water went up my nose (head) and it gave me the most terrible headache. After awhile of trying, I finally got into a rhythm and I was able to accomplish a few nice clean flip turns. By 6am, I had done the flip turns a couple of times. It felt great. Nice and smooth turns. I still don't turn perfectly nor with the power that is necessary to carry me past the flags but it feels good to at least be able to kick off the wall.

Spin: Easy day. Tempo. Rod was not there instead Lance substituted.

After spinning, I wanted to keep practicing the turns so I went back to the pool and practiced for another 30 minutes.

I find that doing a few somersaults before swimming gets me into the right mindset to accomplish the flip turns.

Overall: proud of the achievement of finally being able to flip.

Saturday-Long Run

Sat. March 22

Type: Long run-6 Miles

Quality: Good effort

At first, I had plans to go running with Amber and Nish but they both had different things to do at the last minute. Nish actually watched the kiddos and Sam came running with me.

I took 1-10oz water bottle with me but it wasn't enough. I could have drank more during the run but I had to make it last through the last 2 miles. Next time: Plan on getting more water. We went the Millville route and then we went up that long lonely road where they have alpacas or llamas. The road up that way is really nice and quiet and seeing the llamas was nice too--good distraction.

My mile 4, I was feeling really tired but Sam kept pushing me and encouraging me. It was great that he came along as I would have walked a couple of times but seeing him run next to me kept me on running. The last block home, I had to give it all I had so that we could come back in exactly 1 hour.

Overall: Excellent workout.

Tip (from Sam) uphill: Higher turnover and push off on your toes.
