Racing to the end
One of my road-biking friends is expecting, she has about a week left til the little bundle of joy comes home. I wanted to give her something needle knitted and at first I wanted to make her a baby blanket--especifically this baby blanket by Dawn Brocco. I had great intentions of knitting it, I even got the yarn and the needles for it but then I realized that I didn't have enough time to make it. Still, I wanted to make something and with Fall approaching I settled on making a few baby hats for her baby girl.
The first one is done and I am in love with how cute and adorable it looks
. It is so tiny and I just hope that they like it as much as I do. I especially like the top of the hat. The crown has a swirl decrease design and to finish it off a little I-cord top knot.
I am thinking of creating 2 more little hats, 1 with a lace edging and another with baby cables.
The little swirl-crown design hat took only a couple of hours to make. I think I spent more time working out the math and the swatch than actually knitting the little cuteness.
If you are interested, here is the Bundle of Joy pattern. If you make it, let me know, I would love to see it :). In the mean time, I will be racing the clock and trying to knit the other 2 little hats...and if I am lucky I would love to make her matching bootees. Racing my needles to the end. Just like my hubby raced his little legs to the end of the marathon last week.
I should have shared these pictures last week but I have been a bum and been slacking on my blogging duties. Here is hubby giving it all his heart on last week's marathon. His arches gave out during the race and he could barely walk for a few days. One of the arches gave out at mile 10 and the other at mile 14. Despite the pain, he was a sport and finished the race. The kids and I met him at mile 21 and I walked and chatted with him for a couple of miles...I was trying to get his mind away from the pain and his heart back on the race. He had a crazy idea of quitting at mile 21...you just don't quit after you have ran 21 miles, so instead we walked for a few minutes while he rested his legs and gave his arches a little break. After a little break, he took off again and he finished the marathon. What an accomplishment! We are so very proud of him. Wonderboy took the medal they gave Dad and it is hanging in his bedroom along with the poster from the event. The example he sets for the children is just amazing! His feet are almost back to their full health and he is already planning on starting his training again...and I think he is thinking of dragging me into it. Maybe I can tuck and roll for 26miles ;).
About a pidge...this has been a popular topic over at the loom knitting yahoo groups lately. T
he particular scarflet at the above website appears to be knitted on a knitting board with a simple stitch known as the figure 8. I made something similar to this item a couple of years back, it is nothing fancy but quite similar. The pattern can be found in the LKP book; the scarflet in the book uses a brooch rather than buttons to close it but the idea is pretty similar, done on a knitting board with the stockinette stitch. Maybe I should crank some of these out for the upcoming holidays to give to my biking girlfriends.

Hey! I could kick a few of those out and sell them to you! I'd even cut you a break and only charge you $150. :D

Is it possible for you to give me the dimesions of the Scarflet? I adore that and it would make a few of my northern family members very happy.

What an adorable hat! I just love handmade baby things, especially in pink! I'm sure your friend will love it!

I did a sample on the KK long loom and I got two different patterns by accident. I'm not consistant when I wrap the pegs and I'll change the way I wrap the yarn almost every row. However, I do remember doing the figure 8 for a steady 4 inches on my sample and I got the same stitch pattern as the Pidge. I liked the texture of the stitch and wondered what to do with it, now I know.
Another thing, the price they want for the Pidge, is it the yarn or the hand knitted part of their discription that make them so expensive?

Oh Isela,
Have you forgotten how quick knitting is on the looms? Sure, needle knitting has it's own mysteries, but you're on a deadline! Whip out an AJAL and get knitting! LOL
Sorry - I just had to. The devil in me on a Monday morning!

Aw, cute hat! I really need to get going on some baby projects. I really think there must be something in the water out here! (And no, I am not drinking the water, haha!)

Hey, this morning they've taken the photo of the, ah, artisans using the knitting looms off their website!
Guess they don't want us to know how fast and easy it is to make a $425 scarflet (even if it does use cashmere yarn).

Last night when I looked at the 10 day forecast and saw that walking on Monday morning to get the kids to school it might be around 35 degrees, I knew poor baby M needed a hat and fast. So last night found me knitting a simple hat out of some wool/acrylic (only thing I could find) I measured her head to be 15 inches, guessed at my gauge and casted on. It fits her perfectly (lately me and gauge have been fighting so it's pretty amazing that it does) and I too did a little I-cord topknot but I turned it into a loop instead of just a knot. I'm so happy I did knit it today cuz it was so chilly this morning! But at least she stayed warm in her stroller coat and new hat.

holy schmoly, that's quite a chunk of change for a scarflet. I wish I could have seen the pics of them knitting using knitting boards!

The baby hat is so adorable! I need a baby gift for this Saturday. Maybe I can crank one out in time. Thanks for the pattern. : ) I think I can, I think I can.......
Congrats Sam! What a fabulous example for the kiddos.
Pidge Smidge. No way would I pay that much for something so simple (and small), even if it is knit from cashmere. And besides, I can make my own.
Huggz!

Any chance of a loom knitted pattern for that very adorable baby hat?
And, making a "pidge" for my mom for Christmas now. After looking at the prices on that site, I won't even mind paying $$ for a few balls of some nice cashmere to do it either!
