Baby Shower Prizes

Thank you everyone who helped me come up with different activities for the baby shower. The big day is today and I am so excited and I still a gazillion things to get together and I am hoping in my heart that my friend is surprised and really happy about it all.  I am going to make guacamole and churros because those are two of the favorite things she likes to snack on lately....hope she is the craving for them.

PrizesSince you all helped me so much, I have some little somethings to share..since you can't come to the baby shower and be a part of the fun, I have decided to share some party favors--no they are not baby related, but knitty related.

1 person will get a $10 Starbucks gift card that I got in the mail for participating in a survey. I would use it but I don't drink coffee, so it is up for grabs.

2 people will get a set of stitch markers.

Activities that I have chosen for today's fun:

  • Coloring Onesies. I picked up 30 onesies and some fabric markers and we are going to make some original little shirts for the baby.
  • Binkie Necklaces: Little binkies hanging from ribbon and everyone will get one and the person that say the word "cute" loses their necklace to the first person that catches her saying the word. The one with the most necklaces at the end of the night wins.
  • My water broke: put water in a plastic cup, place the baby and freeze it. Everyone gets a cup when they get to the party. The cup that thaws faster wins. I am planning to put some blue food coloring in the water.
  • Everyone gets 3 papers and writes a boy name on each to give to Mommy.
  • Everyone gets a diaper and a piece of paper and writes something inspirational for Mom. Mom gets all the diapers to use when baby comes.

We are an active bunch so I hope that the above are activies that we can do while chatting and visiting with each other.

All you have to do to win any of the above 3 prizes is leave a comment in today's post. Nothing specific, just let me know you are out there reading. I will post the 3 winners on Wednesday--winners will be chosen randomly. Again, thank you for helping me out with the baby shower. I am so happy about it and I hope everyone has fun...especially the Mommy to be :).

Baby Shower Ideas

I am in need of help. I am planning a baby shower for a dear friend and I am running dry on ideas for baby shower activities. Do you know any? I need at least two of them. I have been to only one baby shower--my own, lol, so I know very little of activities. If you have any activities in mind that are fun, drop me a comment! Pleease...your help will be greatly appreciated ;).

Happy Halloween: Pumpkin Carving: A ball of string and sticks--an original artwork

Sticksstring_2 Pumpkin Carving: an artwork in itself. Our Halloween party brought together about 30 ripe, orange, gorgeous pumkins. I sat in front of my pumkin pondering what it will become, one thought remained constant: I am a knitter! I should shout it to the world and let the light shine. Off I went with my idea of the ball of yarn and needles sticking through. My skills in pumkin carving are small, almost non-existent but my passion for knitting is big and thus my ball of string and sticks came about. I present you, my ball and string--art on a pumpkin.

Pumpkin Sheep for You! May you get lots of treats and even some tricks :)

Top Momma

My blog has made it into the Top Mommas. Help me keep it up there at least for a day or two. Hop on over and click on my banner--the little PurlingSprite one.

I'm a Top Mommma!

Now, I can go on for the day thinking that I am a top Momma...even if it is just on a blog...cuz in reality my kids think I am a big meanie (their exact words).

Happy Valentine's!

Happyvalentines

Just a shout out to wish you a happy Valentine's day.  May you be showered with a bit of extra hugs and kisses this day.

I had a misconception of Valentine's--I always thought it was a special day for your and your squeeze but this year, I found the real meaning of this day. It is the day my little tykes shower me with extra kisses and little love notes with hearts. Little Wonderboy surprised me yesterday with this note--he knows how to spell Mom and write it too!

And lastly, I received a postcard from my book...here she is.....if you see her, please give her a lift, she is coming all the way from the UK and she is a bit dusty and running low on her little supplies pack. I can hardly wait!

You can try it out too, go to MyHeritage.com, if you try it out, let me know, I want to see :).  I tried mine with two different pictures--one recent, and one from about 2 years ago--interesting results!

I miss my Mommmmy

Sniff, sniff, sniff....she is on her way right now to NY. The visit was way to short. The time went by too fast, we had so many plans but time caught up with us and half of our plans did not come through.

Saying goodbye to her gets harder and harder each time. Each time, I try to be stoic and hold my ground, I try hard not to show too much emotion, but each time, I fail miserably. As she holds me close and tells me that she loves me, I can feel the pain within me starting and my eyes begin to sting and then I can feel the little streams down my cheeks. (Just keep on thinking that she'll be back soon, soon...soon!)

This time around was a bit harder than ever before for two reasons: First, my darlin' Momma has been very sick with RA and it has caused her great pain and it has changed her lifestyle completely. It worries me that she is so far away--in a place where I can't care for her and be there for her.

The second reason are my little ones. They instantly fell in love with their Abuelita and seeing her go was heartbreaking. My little Wonderboy kept a straight face throughout our goodbyes at the airport. He didn't smile, he didn't cry, he didn't do much, just gave Abuelita high five and a kiss. However, as soon as we got to the car and he got in his seat--his little face changed completely and he just started crying non-stop. He wanted his Abuelita and he wanted to go in the plane to NY with Abuelita.  I held him in my arms and reasured him that Abuelita would come back soon (at the same time, I was trying to affirm this to myself too) but as I held him and felt his crying, I started with the crocodile tears again....at the end, my little Wonderboy was my support. Baby Wondergirl just kept on asking for her Grandma and her Uncle....and telling her daddy that "mommy...sad...miss...grandma" (she talks in one word sentences).

Although we are a bit sad...we have hope, she has promised to move closer to us...maybe in two years, or if everything goes well a bit sooner. In the mean time, we will cherish our little mini-vacations together. Grandma come back soon!!! (She reads my blog over at the library...Mami, regrese pronto!--la extranamos mucho!).

Pictures of yummy food coming up....think yummy salad and some very tasty Corundas and Pork in Green Salsa......yuummmm.

Here is a mini-slide of more pictures with Abuelita....

A huge thank you to all of you for all your recommendations on my lack of sweating problem. Yeah, I never thought I would wish that I could sweat. It has actually been a life-time problem. I have never, ever been able to sweat. Back in HS, I wanted to train to be in the pathetic running team and while "trying-out" my nose started bleeding, so no running for me. I was marked by the coach "as too fragile" for the job, so I sat that down, then a year or so later, I volunteered to be a part of the soccer team and guess what--my nose bled within the first 10 minutes...so I sat that one down too. Fast forward a few years later and well, nose bleeds are less frequent but they still occur.

I have been keeping up with my exercise and following all of your advice: I have been drinking lots of fluids before, during and after. I have even stopped and cooled myself off with some water. I hope that as I keep going that I may be able to sweat it off, hehehe.

The funny thing is that once I stop running/jogging and sit down then my body does cool off and my body starts glistening just a bit--but it is just a tad too late as my head is already exploding by that time from the heat. I am hoping that as I keep it up that my metabolism starts kicking in and changing the way my sweat glands work--maybe they are broken from disuse, hehehehe.

And here is a little MEME  of a sort--I saw it over at Mim's today.

If Isela ruled the world! (The pinky, the pinky and the brain,hehehehe-Sometimes I am the Brain but most of the times I am just like Pinky, hehehehe.)

I would add the following to Mim's rules:

1. My computer at the shop would be without one little speck of dust. Not like it is right now--full of dust and sawdust--yuck!

2. Cables and all types of cords would be neatly organized under the desk. Not all tangled like breeding snakes!

3. The dishes would clean themselves up and put themselves in the dishwasher

4. Food would come in little pills that I could pop in the oven and then the pill turns into a meal. (Like in the Fifth Element movie)

5. All children under the age of 12 would go to bed exactly at 8pm without fussing or crying or giving you a puppy face.

6. Headaches are absolutely banned! Banned! No one should ever have to have a headache.

7. 1 Free Airplane ticket a year to anywhere in the world.

8. And while we are at it...a free hotel stay for 5 days in your city of choice.

Aaaak, the headache is too much...I shall go and find some drugs soon....druggssss...yeesss!

Penmanship Meme

I saw it over at Mim's, who saw it over here and over here, and I couldn't resist. Write a pangram, then your first name, and take a picture :), put the picture on your bloggy. Now, I have seen it in a few blogs--my question is--is there someone going to come and analyze me through my writing. It is sloppy, I blame it on the computers. I was so eager to master the typing that I forgot how to write.

As far as pens go, well, all my nice pens are stocked away in a box. I like to write with liquidy sharp point pens, in purple if possible. If you were to find a notebook from back when I was in school, you will find purple and blue ink, with the date and title with some sparkly underlines. Til this day, one of my favorite places to go shopping is Staples, even if I have to drag the Y-chromosome subjects in my family through the ordeal. I never leave the place without either a)pens b)pencils c)post-its even if I have a million of them at home I must have them, must!!

Back to the MEME, c'mon go ahead let us see your writing :).

You see that burgundy something in the corner--it is my only knitting that is not packed. It is a little something special that I am working for someone whom I am not allowed to tell.

Dsc05269 The moving date has arrived!!! We will be heading to unload ourDancingshee  furniture today. My house is a disaster area, it seems that a bomb went off--well, let me show you our sleeping quarters for the past two days--we have arrived to two conclusions. 1. The Floor is Hard!!!

2. Kids will do almost anything to sleep between the two of us/or on top of us making No. 1 even more agonizing

And 3, I know, I didn't put a 3, but it should be there--community sleeping quarters are terrible!!
